Michael who is fondly called as Mike and Caren were a couple that I and my colleagues met for the first time few months back when they approached us to document their wedding day. I should say the meticulous planning that was being done did really impress us and it was surely an onus on us to really do a very good job done for them, forget about being outstanding or overwhelming. We as a team began our detailed planning. However I must admit that no where as a Wedding Cinematographer did I anticipate in doing a Same Day Edit (SDE) for the couple. However as we were nearing the wedding day the possibility to do a same day edit cropped in our minds and so we started our preparations.
Caren had taken the trouble to prepare her own invitation cards and hence we felt that it was worth documenting it and they were all excited to get that filmed. Little did they know that we were shooting it in preparations of a same day edit. The timeline prepared had given me 2 hours and 30 mins gap between the nuptials and the Reception and I decided to take the challenge in doing the SDE. However when we arrived at the venue the gap was reduced to mere 1 hour. I should admit that I was hesitant at that point and while I was on the verge to give up, my colleagues, Agnelo Rodrigues, Neil Rodrigues, Austin Lobo and moral support from Vita Rodrigues got me pumped to resume the edit. While I began the edit my colleagues did back me up in shooting when necessary. 1 hour passed and we are still short of 40 secs of footage and there we went on to cover the march, toast and first dance and then an hour later the SDE is ready.
Now that we were prepared, we had another task to achieve is to get it screened. The party mood was so intense that any break in the rhythm could bring the party to an abrupt halt and while we waited and waited. Agnelo and Austin did their bit to convince the bridal party for screening a short clip they were not aware of what. As the screening was being done emotions started running high and when the bride just shouted in joy at the end of the SDE, that was the satisfaction I had worked for...... BINGO... the job was done!
Now my eyes are set on something more detailed in the future weddings.... Thank you my friends and colleagues
